Discoveries of the First Year: Reflections on Motherhood

"Motherhood has given my life a whole new meaning."

Before I became a mom, I used to hear similar sentiments and think they were just part of the package. But now, looking back on my first year as a mom, I can say for sure that being a parent has changed everything for me.

Here are some things I've learned from April 28, 2023, to April 28, 2024, that I hope might help other parents, new moms, or anyone thinking about becoming a parent:

  • Take it slow; rushing just makes everything harder.

  • Listen to advice, but take your time deciding what's best for you.

  • Set boundaries early to avoid unnecessary stress.

  • Trust your instincts—they're usually right.

  • Remember, it's okay to ask for help, even if people might say no.

  • Try not to buy too much stuff; you probably won't need it all.

  • Social media only shows part of the picture; don't compare yourself to others.

  • You're stronger than you think, so take a deep breath and keep going.

  • Your baby loves you more than you know, even if they can't say it yet.

  • Everything you do for your child is worth it, even if it looks different than other parents.

  • Do what feels right for you, whether that's staying in or going out.

  • Be kind to yourself; your body needs time to recover.

  • Treasure the special moments of parenthood—they're truly miraculous.

  • Don't forget to support other parents; a kind word will impact them in ways you will never know.

In the journey of parenthood, every little lesson counts. Remember, even in their first year of life, our children teach us so much about love, patience, and the wonders of the world. You’ve got this!!

With love,

Betta
